Poultry producers and processors are rinding it increasingly difficult to recruit new staff as young people opt to establish careers in other industries. A typical experience is that of Jackie Newman, HR manager at PD Hook: "Recently we advertised foran area manager and we had to re-advertise it to attract sufficient (suitably qualified) applicants," she says. It is a story often repeated across the industry in some form. British Poultry Council executive officer Richard Griffiths believes it stemsfrom the sector failing to attract young people into thinking of poultry as a career.
