Italian technologies for car components

Today,research in the automotive sector is pushing strongly for an ever more pervasive use of plastics,as can be seen in certain " concept cars" recently presented by various manufacturers.Increasing the number of components made from synthetic materials helps reduce the weight of vehicles,improving fuel economy and abating harmful emissions.To make an automobile,some 40 different types of resins are used,each one selected on the basis of specific technical requirements.Although the prevailing technology employed for making plastics automotive components is without a doubt injection moulding,it is by no means the only one.On the contrary,it is encouraging to see that the automobile industry appears better able than others to make use of the full array of plastics processing methods available today.In this article we offer a brief description of solutions proposed by 4 Italian manufacturers.
