Aobjective of FeedSafe is to 'enable livestock producers to achieve expected levels of performance by delivering stock feed of consistent quality to animals'. The Code for Good Manufacturing Practice states that a 'raw material sourcing and purchasingprogram must be implemented that minimises potential product quality and safety risks, be they biological, chemical or physical'. The onus lies with both suppliers of raw materials and feed manufacturers to ensure the feed delivered to livestock is fitfor purpose and of consistent quality. The sophistication of modern feed formulation software along with advances in near infrared technology have helped nutritionists ensure the necessary nutrition objectives are met. The physical quality can also be assured with the use of sieve sets, pellet durability and pellet hardness testing tools and of course visual assessments.
