More than 40 years ago, Harvard Business School professor Abraham Zaleznik published an article that began a debate on how leaders are different from managers. In 1990, John Kotter, who was a retired Harvard Business School professor, penned an article proposing that "management and leadershiare complementary, and that in a changing world, one cannot function without the other. His key point clearly differentiates leaders and managers: "Managers promote stability while leaders press for change, and only organizations that embrace both sidesof that contradiction can thrive in turbulent times."
