For years fresh eggs have been shipped in refrigerated containers from the USA West Coast to Hong Kong, During the first half of 1996 Hong Kong imported some 2500 container loads of eggs. About 900 came from this the USA and 300 from Holland, but a growing quantity is now coming from other Asian countries China shipped the equivalent of 800 containers - up almost 20% from the same period the previous year; Thailand went up from 60 loads in 1995 to 200 loads in 1996, and Malaysia increased their share from a token 10 loads to 100 loads in the first six months of 1996.
