Following last year's dramatic 38 percent increase in volume sales, exports of Brazilian chickenmeat during the first two months of this year showed a further rise of 24 percent to reach 209,000 tonnes compared with 169,000t last year. Sales of whole birds rose by just over 9 percent from 85,000t to almost 93,000t. While, the Middle East was easily the main market, the quantity purchased actually declined by almost 4 percent from 73,000t to just over 70,000t. However, large increases were recordedin the trade with both Russia, which amounted to 6332t against 2126t, and Africa (5906t compared with 1605t). For chicken cuts, the increase in business was an even more dramatic 37 percent as the two-month total climbed from 83,000t to nearly 114,000t.While Asia was the largest regional buyer taking 42,000t against 37,000t, the biggest increase in trade was with Europe with the volume purchased rising by 25 percent from just under 32,000t to almost 40,000t. Again, it was noticeable that Russian purchases jumped from 1133t to 8853t while the volume of business conducted with Cuba went up from just 125t to 6274t.
