Petopur GmbH, in Schwarzheide, is making use industrially of a new synthetic process for recovering polyol from recycled PET material. PET in the form of flake, granulate, powder (from grinding), production scrap and film is used as the raw material. The annual tonnage is given as 4000 t of APP (aromatic polyester polyol). This synthesis allows PET to be used in the rigid foam industry - an interesting process for countries in warmer regions of the world as well, for whom new applications for PET can become accessible.
