Unexpected diastereoisomeric-trimers in the crystalline structure of triflatetriphbenylphosphinesilver(I)

The synthesis and spectroscopic properties of [Ag_3(O_3SCF_3)(PR_3)_3] (PR_3 = PPh_3 and PPh_2Me) are described and the trimeric nature has been confirmed in the case of the PPh_3 derivative. The X-ray crystal structure of [Ag_3(O_3SCF_3)3] shows that each triflate group is in a different coordination mode and that there are two diastereoisomers in the asymmetric unit.
