Standard-Thermoplastics Trend June 2014: Polyolefins notching up / Most producers net more than the cost rise / PVC gaining ground / Monomer decline not fully factored in to PS / All signs point toward further rises

It was no surprise that the upward tendency evident in western European standard thermoplastics prices in late May continued into the first third of June as well. PE producers exploited the EUR 10/t rise in the monthly ethylene contract to grease their margins, pushing through increases of up to EUR 30/t. The exception to the rule was HDPE, where the rise has so far been limited to the monomer increase.
