The polymer price increases generated by surging oil notations in February hit European buyers of standard thermoplastics squarely in the first third of March. The uncertainty that washed over into the olefins market led to significant cost increases for ethylene (C2) and propylene (C3), with the former rising by EUR 60/t and the latter by EUR 80/t. The increase for styrene monomer (SM), at an average of EUR 29/t, was comparatively moderate. Most polymer producers sought increases exceeding the cost rise.
