The comprehensive exploration of the "Pars" petrochemical field - a goal set a decade ago - is still proving difficult. Both Iran and Qatar are lagging behind their ambitious plans to use the light gases from what is the world's largest known gas field in the Persian Gulf. Whereas Iran's foot dragging is mostly the result of political issues, Qatar has seen a string of promising western technology and distribution partners abandon ship.
