Foundation stone laid for new integrated PVC plant/ SolVin joint venture plans to go on stream in 2013

Following years of delay, business and political representatives gathered in the Kstovo district of Russia's Nizhny Novgorod on 12 July to celebrate the laying of the first foundation stone for RusVinyl's (Nizhny Novgorod / Russia; www.rusvinyl.ru) new integrated PVC line. The 50:50 joint venture between SolVin (Brussels / Belgium; www.solvin-pvc.com) and Siberian-Ural Petrochemical (Sibur, Moscow / Russia; www.sibur.ru) originally had been scheduled to go on stream this year, but the date was later postponed to 2013. By this time, RusVinyl reports, the plant's nameplate capacity will stand at 330,000 t/y of PVC and 235,000 t/y of caustic soda, with the option to increase PVC production to 500,000 t/y should Russia's PVC consumption continue to rise. The earlier delays were reportedly caused by a shortage of funding for the project, which "plans to attract up to EUR 750m of credit resources", RusVinyl said.
