Advocates Support EPA Paint Proposal,Urge Strengthening of Training Requirement

Child health advocates and home builders offered their support at a March 29 public hearing for an Environmental Protection Agency proposal that would set new standards for training,certification,and sampling during home renovation projects to ensure the protection of children and others from lead.The rule,proposed by the agency Jan.10 and issued under Section 402(c)(3)of the Toxic Substances Control Act,would establish requirements for renovator and dust sampling technician training and impose home renovation firm certification requirements(30 CRR 65,1/16/06).The hearing in Washington,D.C.,was the second of five public meetings being held around the country prior to the end of the public comment period April 10.
