MaterialScience margins slips further in 2007 / New Chinese polycarbonate line 'ready to start' in H2

The EBITDA margin at Bayer MaterialScience (BMS, Leverkusen / Germany; www.bayerbms.com) in 2007 fell further behind the target of 18% in "good years." Speaking at the annual spring press conference in Leverkusen, Bayer chairman Werner Wenning pointed to a margin of 15.4% for BMS, down from 16.5% in 2006. Due to the ongoing "difficult" market environment, a reliable forecast for 2008 is not yet possible, Wenning said, but added that margins are likely to deteriorate further, despite continued strong volumes.
