The Department of Transportation is considering a request by BP Exploration(Alaska)Inc.to begin production on an Alaska North Slope pipeline that has been closed since August in order to conduct in-line inspections,a spokesman for the agency said Sept.14.The agency's first priority is the safe operation of the pipeline,DOT's Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration spokesman James Wiggins told BNA.He said that a comprehensive review of the application could take at least one to two weeks,or even longer.
