Shanghai Petrochemical sees 53.4% plunge in profit for fiscal 2005

Sydney-Sinopec Shanghai Petrochemical posted a 53.4% decline in profit to Yuan 1.85 billion for the year ended December 31,2005,the company said March 26.Profit before tax fell 51.29% to Yuan 2.29 billion and earnings per share were Yuan 0.26,down from 2004's Yuan 0.55.The firm saw a 16.63% rise in annual turnover to Yuan 45.96 billion(5.69 billion).Shanghai Petrochemical's operating performance was steady during 2005,chairman Rong Guangdao said.
