Russian methanol producers eye US market as EU hikes import duty

Russian methanol producers were said to be eyeing the US market as an alternative for exports after the European Union announced it would hike the import duty on Russian goods into Northwest Europe by 3.5% to 5.5% from Jan 1,2006.Since there was a 0% duty on Russian imports into the US,some Russian producers said they were seriously considering the viability of sending material to the US,although producers added that logistical issues were a stumbling block.
