EDC: Prices were on the rise for EDC in the US export market this week as a result of a cost-push effect from the upstream. While the market was not experiencing increased demand to support rises in price, ethylene pricing kept EDC spot prices on the uptrend. Export spot prices were heard pegged at $400-420/mt FOB USG. In the chlorine market, demand in the US continued to drag, however, supply was reportedly tightening due to slowing operating rates. Market participants were taking a wait and see approach to determine what happens in the caustic soda market, which would in turn determine how to approach the US chlorine market in Q1 and Q2.
