European spot values increased further this week on lack of prompt volume available. Local inventory levels were desperately thin and with a significant support from imported material not yet felt, prompt fundamentals remained tight. Spot values increased to Eur1,110-1,120/mt FD NWE level Wednesday. Some February business was reported done by a trader at Eur1,140/mt level, information yet to be corroborated by the rest of the market. Meanwhile in the contract market, early month discussions started. Producers positioned themselves at Eur85-100/mt increase versus January. Converters, on the other hand, hoped to limit the increase to the ethylene increase of Eur70/mt.
