Asian prices remained unchanged on the week, due to a slowdown in demand ahead of the holidays in beginning of next week for the Mid-Autumn Festival (September 22-24) and National Day holidays (October 1-7). While sellers hiked prices by $20-30/mt on the week to reflect firmer styrene monomer prices, Zhejiang Grand reported receiving buying ideas of only $1,940/mt versus its offer of $1,990/mt. With Christmas-related orders deemed “almost completed” by market participants, Chinese converters were heard preferring to buy small 20-80 mt lot-size domestic cargoes at Yuan 16,700/mt ($1,989/mt import-parity basis)for last minute short-covering requirements.
