Producers were struggling to convince converters to accept even a modest increase in their September contracts, with some already agreeing to a rollover from August levels, sources claimed this week. A number of producers confirmed a rollover seemed to be developing as a theme in contract talks. But with many fixing contracts in the second half of the month, a push for at least a Eur10/mt increase was being pursued. One producer said he had set a price policy of plus Eur20/mt for Sept contracts. “But after one week in the market, we realized it wasn’t realistic. There was a strong resistance for a price increase,” he said, adding prices for over 80% of its Sept contract settlements were unchanged from August levels.
