European ABS producers were digesting the latest increases in the September styrene monomer contract prices, agreed today. The three September contracts for feedstock styrene were reported at an average increase of Eur48/mt to a price of Eur1,010/mt FD NWE ($1,293/mt). The rise in styrene feedstock costs was not the only concern for producers. The rise in the cost of pigments and colors was also an issue and another driver behind further increases planned for September, producers said. “We’re deciding the level of increases for pigments and high heats. The additives in pigments are skyrocketing due to the tightness in titanium oxide, a key ingredient in pigmentation. Producers are going short. [In recent years] titanium dioxide companies have reduced capacity which may not come back at the same rate as demand [has returned].
