US PVC sellers were likely to see some support from raw materials in their efforts to hike February contracts by 5 cents/lb, sources told Platts this week. More specifically, February spot ethylene values remained roughly 10 cents/lb above the December contract, a sign that January contracts would move higher. Some participants thought January ethylene would climb by 5-6 cents/lb however at time of publication no confirmed settlements were heard. If ethylene does indeed settle 6 cents/lb higher, PVC makers would see production costs increase by just under 3 cents/lb.
