US export polyvinyl chloride prices slipped $15/mt to start the year, assessed Wednesday at $600-$610/mt FAS Houston, reaching its lowest since the May 13, 2009 assessment of $600-$610/mt FAS Houston, according to Platts data. Platts last assessed US PVC on December 16 in observance of winter holidays. The drop in prices follows weak seasonal demand and declining crude prices, trading sources said. In domestic markets, Shintech will raise domestic PVC resin prices 3 cents/lb ($66/mt) from February 1, a company source said Monday. The 3-cent hike comes on top of the 2-cent increase for January, the source added. Shintech follows three additional PVC producers to announce a US price increase for February. Oxy Vinyls, Westlake and Axiall announced February hikes in latter part of December, sources said.
