European ethylene spot and contract market ideas moved in opposite directions for April, industry sources said, adding that contract prices were set to extend recent gains while spot prices softened further. "We are pretty much covered now, but would be looking at sub-$1,600/mt CIF ARA for April delivery if we were still buying. I think the spot market is softening," a spot buyer said. A seller reported a tepid buying response to an end-March arrival spot cargo, and added: "Prices are probably below $1,600/mt CIF NWE April delivery." Cargoes from the Middle East and Mexico were also on offer, but did not generate any interest, sources added. Coastal prices were assessed at $1,620-1,625/mt CIF NWE and $1,595-1,600/mt CIF Med Friday.
