Asian acrylonitrile was assessed $50/mt lower week on week Tuesday at $2,230/mt CFR Far East Asia and $$2,190/mt CFR Southeast Asia, and down $55/mt over the same period at $2,150/mt CFR South Asia, as demand remained sluggish in most downstream sectors and regions. Several end-users and traders were talking about deals done below $2,200/mt for cargoes to arrive in late September or early October on a CFR India basis, booked from the US. A trader shipping cargoes from the US confirmed offering at $2,175-2,200/mt CFR India for a cargo to arrive in early October. An end-user in India said deals had been done in a range of $2,135-2,150/mt CFR India for 2,000 mt from the US to arrive in late September, but this could not be confirmed with other sources. An end-user based in Southeast Asia said offers were at the $2,200/mt-level, but believed he could negotiate the price down to $2,150-2,160/mt CFR. With acrylic fiber priced around $2,700-2,800/mt, producers would need a margin of about $600/mt to turn a profit, he explained.
