Spot prices for low density polyethylene dropped further this week as buyers adopted a cautious stance on a weaker macroeconomic backdrop and sovereign debt concerns. The sluggish activity was magnified by summer holidays in Europe. Buyers in Europe also trod warily as the Asian LLDPE market showed signs of weakness. Asian LLDPE prices were assessed $14/mt lower week-on-week Wednesday at $1,320/mt CFR Far East Asia. In related Asian news, converters in Asia were substituting LDPE with LLDPE C6, sources said. LLDPE C6 was competitively priced and easily available, sources added. In Europe, some traders reported deals were being done at Eur1,160-1,180/mt FD NWE, while others reported that offers had come down to Eur1,120/mt. "LLDPE availability is thin, but at the same time, buying is muted," a trader said. One converter also reported getting a offer at Eur1,120/mt.
