Falling feedstock prices within Europe prompted bearishpressure on contract prices while at the same time improvingthe opportunity for producers to sell spot material and compete with imported material from Asia in southern Europe. On thecontract market, sellers made it clear that they would look tosignificantly widen the premium for high impact gradematerial, while buyers said they would be prepared to acceptsome, but not all, of the proposed amount. Falling styrenemonomer prices and rising butadiene prices have led to marginerosion for HIPS producers. One producer, Styron, announcedWednesday it would look to widen the premium to Eur150/mt,meaning it would effectively target close to a rollover on HIPS.
