India crude impor jump almost 5%, costs soar 24%

India's crude imports rose by 4.63% to 82.34-mil mt in fiscal 2002-2003 (April-March), compared with 78.7-mil mt a year earlier, Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Ram Niak said Apr 9. The crude import bill, however, rose far mor sharply, jumping by 24.29% to us15.71-bil in FY 2002-2003 versus us12.64-bil a year earlier, the minister told reporters.
