Iran oil minister pick is rejected by parliament

Tehran-Iran's conservative-dominated parliament Aug 24 rejected President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's nominee for the post of oil minister,All Saeedloo,Iranian television and state news agency IRNA reported.Only 17 of the 21-member cabinet nominated by Ahmadinejad gained the votes of confidence needed to confirm them in their posts.Saeedloo,who was deputy to Ahmadinejad during his tenure as mayor of Tehran,has no oil sector or international experience seen by many members of parliament as necessary qualifications for the oil portfolio."We should know that we cannot play with oil," Mashad MP AN Asgari said,quoted by AFP "There are complicated issues within the oil sector.It is both an economical and political matter.When we want to threaten the Europeans in the negotiations,our leverage is oil," he said.
