US LNG export cost hits record high with summer spike in Henry Hub price

The FOB cost of Lower-48 exports climbed to a record high in July at $5.60/MMBtu amid a summertime spike in the price of Henry Hub gas, an analysis of data from the US Department of Energy and Platts Analytics’ Bentek Energy showed September 19. The elevated export cost in July came amid a precipitous decline in US gas production and a jump in demand from gas-fired power generators. In second-half June, US gas production averaged 71.2 Bcf/d, down from record output above 74 Bcf/d in early March. Production fell to an annual low at 70.2 Bcf/d on June 28.
