摘要

Drilling predation, forced entry into prey by boring a hole through the prey's skeleton, continues to be of interest to paleontologists. Recently, there was a theme session on drilling predation at the North American Paleontological Conference (2001), a Paleontological Society short course on predation (2002), a new book on predation ([Kelley et al., 2003]), and a theme-session at Geological Society of America, North-Central Section (2003), not to mention a flood of papers on the subject. Now, we present a theme section of this issue of Palaeogeography, Palaeoclimatology, Palaeoecology. Given the amount of verbiage directed recently towards the subject of predation, and drilling predation in particular, one might ask if there is a need for another theme section on the topic? Is anything really new being done or said?
