The past year was a good year in general for plantations. Tea prices in South India remained at higher levels in 2012. Most of the tea growing regions in the world have reported higher crop during the first half of 2013 despite adverse weather conditions. This may be attributed to the subdued production reported from these countries during the corresponding period last year. The year 2013 started with reasonably balanced supply and demand and therefore market fundamentals will neither be bullish norbearish in outlook, and prices may move in a narrow band close to the current levels.
