The influence of 150 mg/l timentin on the regeneration potentialof Nicotiana tabacum Petit Havana SRI leaf discs and cotyledonexplants was investigated and compared with the effects of 500 mg/lcefotaxime or 1000 mg/l carbenicillin. The concentrations of theantibiotics tested were all efficient for the elimination ofAgrobacteria. We found a positive influence of timentin on shootregeneration from leaf discs (127/100 after 1 month of culture).There was no influence on shoot production from cotyledons after 1month and generally no influence on the rooting ability. Cefotaximedid not affect shoot production from leaf discs, but had aninhibitory effect on cotyledon explant regeneration (81/100 after 2months of culture).
