Effects of seed treatments on control of Fusarium and Rhizoctonia seedling blights of grain sorghum, 2008

Plots were established at the Southeast Agricultural Research Center, Parsons, KS, and the North Central Experiment Field at Belleville, KS. Chemical seed treatments were applied to the seed as a slurry with a commercial seed treater. Seeds were planted on 23 May at Parsons and on 11 Jun at Belleville. Plots consisted of four 25-ft long rows. All locations had a 30 in. row spacing. The in-row spacing was 4.2 in. at Belleville and 4.6 in. at Parsons. There were four replications/treatment arranged ina randomized complete block design. At Belleville, a heavy rain washed out the first replication. Therefore, stand counts and yields were based on three replications. Stand counts were made by counting plants in the middle two rows of each plot on 13 Junat Parsons and 2 Jul at Belleville. Plots were harvested on 25 Sep at Parsons and 7 Nov at Belleville. Yields were adjusted to 13.5% moisture and 56 lb/bu. Stand and yield data were analyzed byanalysis of variance (ANOVA) using Minitab Statistical Software and multiple comparisons of means were performed using Fisher’s Protected least significant difference (LSD at P = 0.05).
