Two experiments determined the resistance of 7 Chinese Spring wheat x Aegilops speltoides addition lines, their parents and four parental lines of other addition populations to the root lesion nematodes Pratylenchus thornei and P. neglectus(RLN). Louise, Alpowa and Seri were included as susceptible checks. Resistant checks were GS50A for P. thornei and AUS28451R, CPI133872 and Persia 20 for both RLN. Entries were replicated four times in a randomized block design and grown in a growth-roomwith soil temperature maintained at 22deg C. Five- to 7-day-old pre-germinated seedlings wereinoculated with 310 P. thornei or P. neglectus when transplanted into tubes containing 155 g of a partially sterilized Walla Walla silt-loam soil. Plants were bottom watered using a capillary watering system with soluble fertilizer (15-30-15 NPK) added as required. Nematodes were extracted from the soil and roots of each entry after 16 weeks of growth using a 48 hr Whitehead tray extraction (high numbers = susceptible; low numbers = resistant). Data was analyzed in GenStat 8th Edition using REML spatialanalysis. Nematode counts were transformed by ln(x+c) before analysis and the predicted means were back-transformed (BTM) after analysis and expressed as RLN/kg oven dry (OD) soil and roots. Transformation values of ‘c’ were optimized at 1,232 and 81for the P. thornei and P. neglectus experiments, respectively. Means were separated by Fisher’s protected LSD (P <= 0.05).
