Ridin' the Wind

When Pettingill Enterprises Inc. won its bid to grade and crush stone for the Red Mesa Wind Farm west of Albuquerque, the Mountainair, N.M.-based company was settling into a new niche. Red Mesa was Pet-tingill's second wind-farm project. Its first, High Lonesome Wind Ranch near Mountainair, had allowed Pettingill to cut its teeth, so to speak, on wind-farm site work, crushing 150,000 tons of stone for roads, crane pads and turbine lay-down yards. In terms of crushed stone, Red Mesa would be twice the size of High Lonesome.
