Stone producers in the Rocky Mountain region of the United States report softening market conditions but say things could be far worse. Perhaps the biggest plus in the region is that industry forces have beaten back anti-growth initiatives in both Arizona and Colorado.In each state, the Sierra Club qualified initiatives for the ballot last November. Had voters approved the measures, infrastructure development would have stopped cold in its tracks. How producers could serve their markets and grow their businesses while hamstrung by such restrictive covenants is, thankfully, a question whose answer need not be pondered - at least not in the near term.
