The U.S. Department of the Interior's Geological Division reports crushed stone production was up five percent (457 million metric tons) in the second quarter of 2001 compared to the same period last year. Sand and gravel production was up 2.2 percent (331 million metric tons) at the same time.For the first half of this year, crushed stone production was up 2.6 percent (747 million metric tons) over 2000 and sand and gravel production was up by 2.3 percent (530 million metric tons).
