I just finished reading the March 2012 issue of CEP — nice job. I was particularly interested in the news story "Scorpions Inspire Tough Surfaces" (p. 8), and the conclusions drawn by the researchers, about designing better erosion resistance by mimicking the scorpion's grooved surface. From the news story, I gather that the researchers extrapolated their findings.of a 30-deg. impact angle (with no reference to whether this is 30 deg. from horizontal or vertical) providing the best protection against particle erosion.
