A novel thionin cDNA (CATHION1, GenBank accession no. AF112869) was cloned from leaves of Capsicum annuum cv. Hanbyul infected with Xanthomonas campestris pv. vesicatoria. Expression of the thionin gene in response to pathogens and stress-inducing compounds was also examined using northern blot analysis.
