摘要

A Nomad's Art: Kilims of Anatolia exhibition presents for the first time a selection of eighteenth-and nineteenth-century Anatolian kilims from the Murad M. Megalli Collection bequeathed to the Textile Museum in 2013. The exhibition, spanning two floors, is visually stunning in its display of large Anatolian kilims with balanced designs made up of horizontal geometric motifs and simple yet bold colour juxtapositions. These works of art are exhibited alongside photographic reproductions that record the life of nomadic communities in Anatolia as documented by Josephine Powell, who spent many years in Turkey from 1955 onwards. Her photographic works, housed at the Suna Kirag Library of Koq University in Istanbul, are used in the exhibition to showcase the social context of these kilims both on walls and in iPad stations at each gallery [Figure 1].
