In 1995 General Electric Tranportation, a subsidiary of General Electric, USA, and ABB Daimler-Benz Transportation, a Joint Venture between Asea Brown Bover and Daimler- Benz, have decided upon a cooperation in the field of diesel locomotives. It comprises the Development, assembly and marketing of a modern, modular family of locomotives for axle Loads below 25 tons. The article illustrates the synergies which form the basis of the cooperation. The set-up of the family Together with the basic ideas of the concept development and the modularization, which are the basis of the development Of the family, are explained. The first locomotive built, the DE-AC33C Blue Tiger, is described in detail. First results form Revenue service at DB Cargo are presented. Excellent results with respect to haulage capabilities and reliability prove the Concept of the development.
