Several years ago, not long after the 45' container became a common item of equipment in the U.S./Japan trades, where it was ideal for the high volume low density merchandise being exported to the United States, they began creeping into the European trades in limited quantities. It wasn't very long, though, before they became increasingly evident on European roads as container operators, shippers and receivers realized that, for many cargoes, they offered considerable savings.
