Field measurements and frame analysis were carried out to investigate the loads acting on the shield-tunnel segments and the influence of construction loads on their design. The results:rn1. When a shield tunnel is constructed in hard clay, earth pressure hardly exerts any influence, and only hydrostatic pressure acts on the segments as an external force.
