Reuters has reported that Chinese firm Beijing Urban Construction Group (BUCG) has won road and tunnel contracts worth US$2.6 billion in Penang state, Malaysia.The work includes an undersea tunnel linking Penang island to the Malay Peninsula as part of an effort to ease traffic congestion on the island, something that has become a key issue for voters. The contract win is the second large Chinese-led development in Malaysia in recent months and reflects the growing economic co-operation between Beijing and Malaysia.
