This report examines India's BrahMos antiship and land-attack missile, as well as its ancestor, the Russian Yakhont/Oniks (SS-N-26 Strobile). Production of the naval version of the BrahMos began in 2005, followed by the army version in 2007. The missile can be launched from surface warships at both land and sea targets, and likewise the army's truck mounted BrahMos has been tested against both land and naval targets. The Indian air force plans to equip its Su-30MKI strike aircraft with a single BrahMos-A missile, but test flights have been continually delayed.
