BONUS is a Swedish artillery projectile with guided submunitions, and a counterpart to the US Army SADARM. The program began in 1990, and in 1993, the French decided to abandon their own Thomson-Brandt ACED program in favor of joining Sweden on the BONUS. Full-scale development was scheduled to be completed in 1994, but this slipped due to the program's reorientation after the French merger. The October 1993 final engineering development contract indicated that RDT&E would continue for another five years, and initial production begin in late 1999. A production contract was awarded in June 2000 for 6,000 rounds for France and 3,000 for Sweden with an option for 1,000 more rounds for France. However, French budget cuts trimmed these numbers back. First deliveries were made in the summer of 2002. Production began in 2005 for both France and Sweden. As of the end of 2005, 3921 rounds had been delivered of which 984 were in the Mk 2 configuration; production deliveries for France and Sweden were completed in 2007 of about 7,320 rounds. BAE Systems has been promoting the BONUS for US Army use since December 2004.
