Developing dyestuffs: meeting the needs of the leather manufacturer

One of the major problems affecting leather manufacturers is the levelness of dyeing. Ultimately the grading—hence values—of quality leathers is dependent upon this important characteristic. Any advance in this area to improve or upgrade leather can be viewed as being of major importance. There are many reasons for unlevelness. These range from the quality of raw hides and skins through all aspects of conversion into leather, and the properties of the selected dye. And it can be said that where there is an unlevelness of dyeing, the dye is acting as a detector of inadequacies within the tanning processes.
