Intellectual Property: Report Says Canada Needs to Harness Intellectual Property Resources

A report released on October 3 by the Canadian International Council argues Canada is paying a steep price for its "short-sighted approach" to intellectual property. Research conducted on behalf of the CIC indicates international buyers are targeting Canada's IP-rich startups. It said that 58% of new Canadian firms were taken over by foreign investors from 2006-2010, yet the acquisitions siphoned off more than 66% of the IP developed by such firms.
